Jamestown:
Founding of America
VPS recently
assisted WHRO in the creation of a half hour video celebrating the
400 th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. Joanne Taylor produced
a script based on an outline written by locale historian John V. Quarstein.
Jack Skinner directed segments following a family taking a tour of
the Jamestown Settlement Living History Museum. The program is narrated
by National Public Radio’s Clay Jenkinson. It is being distributed
by National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) and
will be air by local PBS stations.
It is our first completely high definition production. Many
of the scenes were shot with two cameras. HDV footage from
our Z1 was color corrected at the WHRO studio to match their HD100
footage.

Documentation
VPS
has begun documenting the restoration of the historic 18th century
Moses Myers house in downtown Norfolk.
Steve Marder, a ceramics and plaster artist, is removing 250 years
of paint and restoring the extensive Myers House plaster decoration.
Promotion
Joanne Taylor is coordinated
the production of a video to promote the "Holiday Traditions"
events at the Founders Inn. A class on making a ginger bread
house is one of a dozen programs offered.
Education
We
recently competed a video about the Chrysler Museum of Art's conservation
efforts. The piece includes the cleaning of one of the 20th century's
greatest sculptures "Man" by Gaston Lachaise.
VPS has begun production
on a DVD to help the Chrysler Museum of Art with their school outreach
program.
We
also documented a number of events for the Chrysler museum of art
for 2003 including A lens to the World: Photographs by Bob Learner",
"Bella Macchina: The Art of Ferrari", "Murano: Glass
from the Olnick Spanu Collection" plus a lecture series for
the education department.
VPS
also documented the museum's presentation of the first retrospective exhibition
and major monograph of the photography of Ernest C. Withers. His work holds
a unique place in mid-20th-century American photography. Working as a self-employed
photographer in the American South, Withers was in a unique position to record
the making of history as he acted as both photographer and participant in significant
events of the century. His photographic subjects range from the Civil Rights
Movement and the baseball players of the Diamond League, to the blues and jazz
performers in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
VideoProjectStudio has had the distinct
honor of producing a number of important projects for the
Chrysler Museum of Art. Foremost being a documentary on Jean
Outland Chrysler's role in establishing the museum's extensive art
library. This twenty two minute video, produced primarily for educational
and archival use, has been selected by Public Broadcasting Station
WHRO for broadcast to the entire Hampton Roads market.
History
We
recorded twelve actors portraying early residents of Portsmouth Virginia. The
material will be edited and a 200 DVD's produced for distribution to the Portsmouth
schools. A Virginia SOL compliant lesson plan produced by David Reitz of the
Olde Towne Civic League will accompany the DVD.
We
are doing a project for the Virginia Beach Ghost Walk about the legends
of past residents of the area starting with the the Old Coast Guard
Station, Blackbeard the Pirate and the "Witch of Pungo"
and the Ferry Plantation.
The Arts
Since
2001 We have produced archival records and video press releases
for the Virginia Opera. In addition we did two three camera recordings
of their original production of Richard Strauss' Elektra. It was
a test to see if we could do a broadcast quality production for
under $100 per minute. The footage was all loaded into the Liquid
Silver system at high resolution for editing and conformation to
Harvey Jernegen's beautiful ten microphone CD audio record. The
project was a huge success and since then we have done multi-camera
productions of "Die Fledermaus" and Tristan $ Isolde.
